How does Babyface make his money
Babyface’s career started in the 1970s. He played with funk performer Bootsy Collins, who gave him the nickname “Babyface” due to his youthful looks. He later joined the funk outfit group, “Manchild”, who signed a record deal in 1977 and released three albums. They had a hit song “Especially for You” in 1977.
After leaving “Manchild”, Babyface formed an urban funk group called “The Deele” with partner Antonio “L.A.” Reid. He played keyboards in the light-funk. He later went on to form a successful writing and producing career with Antonio “L.A.” Reid.
In 1983, he wrote his first major successful hit as a songwriter for the R&B band Midnight Star. The tune was titled: “Slow Jam”. After “The Deele” had scored a few sizeable hits on the R&B chart, he and his partner, Antonio “L.A.” Reid left the group in 1988 and founded “LaFace Records” in 1989. Some of the earliest artists were TLC, Usher, and Toni Braxton. These artists have released successful hits. Under the “LaFace Records” direction, TLC sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and a combined total of 75 million records.
LaFace Records also formed the popular late 1990s R&B group, “Az Yet”.
Babyface has worked with over 65 artists in the industry. Some of his work include:
